Pre-cycling...recycling...upcycling

With all this "cycling" going around you would think we would be in better shape!
If you participate in at least a few of these, you are shaping a better world to live in by keeping a few things out of the landfills.
Recycling
It's hard not to recycle nowadays since most cities have a program that makes it easy.  I was very surprised when our city started it and took away a regular trash day.  I thought we would be overflowing with trash, but such a large majority of stuff goes into our recycle can that we only need one trash pick-up a week.  A large majority of our green businesses have two waste cans under their desks.  One for regular trash that usually has a liner in it and another one for paper, paper cups and plastic bottles, etc.  Our business separates these and puts it in the appropriate containers.  Usually business parks have two separate garbage cans outside also.
Upcycling
This is also know as creative reuse, which is transforming unwanted objects into something useful.  Pinterest is full of mindful ideas to upcycle these products ranging from clothing, tin cans, furniture to tires and even wheels. The possibilities are endless if you let your imagination run free, you can create something useful and pretty, and decrease the amount of junk going into the landfills.
Pre-cycling
The practice of reducing waste by attempting to avoid bringing items that will generate waste in the home or business.  I have never really though of the word "precycle" before, although I do try to think before I buy.  Buying one large container instead of several smaller ones is a good idea, and you are keeping  the landfill free of extra items being thrown out.  Before you buy, try to purchase products packed in recycled packaging, look for the recycled symbol.  Bringing your own reusable bags is easier said then done, I can't seem to remember to put them back in the car after I have used them.
Don't purchase styrofoam it contains polystyrene, which is the most difficult material to break down.
Buying fruits and vegetables loose will help you be more selective of what you buy and save on packaging being thrown out.
You're making a difference by making wise buying choices!
HAVE A PLEASANT DAY!
