 What happened to summer vacation?  Our youngest daughter starts school today, and it feels like she just finished school from last year.  From someone who loved summer vacation as a kid, I hate the fact that they start back so early every year.  I feel like we have lost an entire month now, that summer should be over and the fall weather should be starting anytime.  Does anyone else feel that way?

DO THE MATH
If you are looking into hiring a professional janitorial service for your business, I thought I would include a sample of pricing so you have an idea how it works.

EXAMPLE:         20,000 square foot office    Approx. $32.00 nightly

This would include general cleaning (Trash emptied, restrooms and lunch rooms cleaned, vacuuming and mopping as required, furniture dusted, front door cleaned)
You can go one night a week to five nights a week, or somewhere in between depending on the amount of people you have entering your workplace on a daily basis.  If you have more service requirements, you can either choose a pay-as-you-go method or add it onto your regular billing to be broken up into smaller amounts over a period of time.   We usually bill in four week intervals with payment expected at the end of the billing period.  (A few of our bigger accounts break it up and pay us in two week intervals)
Supplies such a trash can liners, paper products like toilet tissue, multi-fold towels, toilet seat liners etc. are not included in the price.  We do buy these supplies for some of our customers and add it to their billing for cost plus 10% for pick-up and delivery.
It's the little things that really matter, little changes can make big differences.

Do you enter your office not knowing what to expect? 
A professional service will not neglect security measures such as allowing unwelcome intruders into you building.  They will help keep your premises safe and secure.  There have been many times we have arrived at a building, after business hours to find that the last person out neglected to lock the door,. Once we entered an office that just didn't feel right and noticed that a small, lower window on the side had been removed.  Several large items had been stolen.  We contacted the business owner and called the police, then waited for them to arrive.
Contracting professional services is serious business.  Anyone can have a business card claiming that they are a professional cleaning service, but this doesn't mean they have the experience, expertise or training that you are expecting.
Their price might be right, but at what cost to you? 
Stick with a professional janitorial service and avoid the hassles and headaches of the unknown.

They're up early biting things, chasing stuff.  Being scary -  Reminding everyone they're freaking sharks.

Is anyone else excited that Shark Week is finally here?  It is just kind of a nice break in our long hot summer to have something to look forward to.  And, you have to admit that sharks are kind of cool, they rule their environment and take care of business.

Monsoon monday

It's Back!  The monsoon season has arrived.  For the next three months or so we will be treated to powerful winds that will knock down trees, tear off roof tiles, and send a few trampolines flying into the road.    The sunsets will be stunning and the lightening shows will be breathtaking.  Until the wall of dirt and dust makes it's way across the valley followed either by enough drops of rain to make the dirt stick to cars and windows, or sheets of rain that flood quickly.  

How are businesses affected by monsoons?
Many car washes and landscapers will be busy the day after a major monsoon hits.  Hopefully, your business did not suffer any damage by the latest round of storms that started Friday night.  We usually receive calls from our customers about flooding taking place by the entrances of their workplaces.  Many are extra dusty and desks and flat surfaces need to be wiped down instead of just dusted.  Front door windows  and entry ways will probably need to be cleaned on a daily basis to keep up with the debris that blows in every time the door is opened.
We are getting ready to leave for work about the time you are getting ready to go home.  Sometimes these storms knock the power out in certain areas and there have been a few times where we could not enter the building at all to clean due to the power outages.  The locks and alarm codes completely shut down the building.   (This has been the only reason we have missed cleaning a building in 35 years of business!)  We also have been in buildings when the power goes off.  Our crew makes it way through the areas to be cleaned as best we can and cover the very basics; like emptying the trash, clean the restrooms and the kitchen.  We carry a re-chargeable vacuum so we can hit the worst spots since we are unable to plug in the heavy duty vacuum.  We do everything in our power to make sure your place of business is ready to open the next day.

Why not hire the cheapest cleaning service?

You know the old saying "You get what you pay for"?  
Man businesses don't know the risks involved with hiring the cheapest janitorial service.  They don't usually provide the best cleaning and may have to cut many corners just to make a profit.
When making your choices, consider that minimum wage has gone up in many states, and that most janitorial services pay more than minimum wage to get and keep good employees,  So,  they risk hiring untrained workers without a back ground check.  This could cost you in the long run.
Another thing to consider is that the cheapest service may not offer liability insurance or worker's compensation.  As many of you know - business insurance is not cheap, so be sure to consider that when you receive a bid that is much lower than others.  Hiring a company that is full bonded and insured is more trustworthy and reliable.
Remember, your place of business has expensive office equipment in it.  You also want to be confident that all your hard work is right where you left it the night before.  That is why you hire people you can trust, which is probably not the cleaning service with the cheapest bid.  Check their credentials and references!

Good Morning,  Part of me is thinking- Wow! it's Wednesday already and the other part is thinking - what do you mean it's only Wednesday!?
Let's talk about your business
Your business is your business!  We have one job, and that is to keep your workplace clean, not rummage through your paperwork on your desk or in your trash can.
Our job is to get in - do the job in a timely manner in order to conserve energy.  We check our work as we go, and we double check as we go back through your workplace to turn off lights and secure doors.  We make sure that all doors are locked and alarms set, so you can rest assured that when you come in the next morning your office will be clean and safe.  And everything is where it should be!
We work for several companies that are in the same type of business. We appreciate the fact that they have put their trust in us for many years and would never do anything for them to think less of us.
Bottom Line -  you do your work, we"ll do ours!

monday, again...

We tried hard to hide from Monday, but  here it is anyway!
We work hard all week,  and occasionally if we get the chance to take a quick weekend road trip, we take it.  Doheny Beach in Dana Point, California was our chosen destination this past weekend.  Once you are able to find parking, (All those Arizona license plates heading for the beach)  you will find a beautiful beach area that has grass, palm trees, sand and ocean.  Lunch was at Boneyard Beach Cafe which played a medley of Beach Boys music, (When you could hear it over the guitar player who was set up nearby!  But, hey he was just trying to earn a living!)  served a variety of food and drinks, and had a to-go menu or a dine in which featured outside seating.  It had a beautiful ocean view, which was very relaxing.  
We stayed one night in a major chain hotel (We like to use local businesses when we can, but so does everybody else this time of year.)  During the night time at the hotel we noticed a very strong cigarette smoke smell coming from the vent in our bathroom.(This is a non-smoking hotel.)  We alerted the front desk who said they would send a manager up to take care of it, we didn't hear from them again.  The next morning we noticed the same strong smell in the hallway, and noticed someone had emptied a lot of trash bags in the ice/vending room area.  We let the management know as a courtesy, and also because we like this hotel and would like to continue staying there.  When we left a couple of hours later, they still hadn't taken care of the mess.  It's sad that such a nice hotel has such poor customer service!
Before we headed home on Sunday, we stopped by Disneyland, rode a few rides, had a spider venom snow cone from their Summer of Heroes area in California Adventure.  The heat and humidity seemed to be at their peak, and it was quite sticky over there, so the snow cones were extremely refreshing.  And, the nice thing about snow cones is that you can use almost any kind of flavor for toppings.

Did You Know?
People can remember smelly places with 65% accuracy after a year.
Baking Soda - more than a baking ingredient!
Baking soda is an inexpensive, fragrance free, all natural ingredient that can be used for all kinds of cleaning and deodorizing.  It is non- toxic and versatile so nobody will be exposed to harmful chemicals.  Perfect to use in areas frequented by kids and pets, and its also safe to use where food is prepared.
Not only is it great for your fridge and freezer, if you have a  closet or room that has trapped odors, you can place a box in there also.   And when you're done with the box you can dump 1/2 cup down your drain and rinse it down with warm water to keep your drains smelling fresh.
Sprinkle it on:
Carpets and upholstery - sprinkle and let sit for few minutes than vacuum.  This will work in your car also!
Trash cans - sprinkle a little in the bottom before replacing trash bag.
Gym bags and sneakers - If these are really bad, you can fill a thin pair of socks with baking soda, tie off the top part and put it in the shoes when they are not being worn.  You could also use this to store fabric items such as clothes or stuffed animals to keep them fresher smelling.
Baking soda doesn't mask odors - it neutralizes them.  I even found a "recipe" for Baking Soda spray.
28 to 32 ounce squirt bottle
1/4 Cup baking soda
Fill up with water and shake until mixed.
I have not tried this yet.  It sounds useful to use in all kinds of areas at work and at home.
