Chocolate chip cookies & business

Good morning! Today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie day and by the title I'm sure you're thinking this post is about a bakery or something. False. Every business is a chocolate chip cookie. We would know after over 35 years of experience. Let's celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie day by eating chocolate chip cookies and talking about how building a business is just like baking a fresh batch of these classically delicious pastries. 
The Dough- The dough that consists of flour, eggs, butter, vanilla, baking soda, etc... is building the foundation of your business. The dough basically represents all of the hard work it takes to start a business. It takes quite a bit of stuff but in the end the dough or your business will have a firm, sometimes sticky, but great foundation to build on. 

Adding the Chocolate Chips- Adding the chocolate chips is hiring employees. Once you have a steady foundation, it helps to start adding the good stuff so the dough doesn't just stay dough. A foundation can't just stay a foundation it has to grow.

Separating Dough- Now that you've added the chocolate chips it is time to separate the dough and put them on a cookie sheet. Separating the dough is figuring out work schedules so it works out for everyone, consistent sizes with some space in between works just fine. 

Baking the Cookies- Baking the cookies is making the rough edges rounder and even firmer. This is the stage in your business where the employees are happy and the great foundation underneath them is growing the business and helping it succeed. 

Letting the Cookies Cool Off- Letting the cookies cool off can represent some harder times maybe that's waiting for a paycheck or dealing with less business than usual. Letting the cookies cool is the hardest part but you will be happier afterwards because you didn't burn your mouth. With patience and a cool head things are sure to work out in the end.

Eating the Chocolate Chip Cookies- Eating the chocolate chip cookies after letting them cool off represents a thriving business. A thriving business has, happy employees, a happy boss, hard work, a paycheck, and satisfied customers. Eating the cookies is reaping the rewards of all of the hard work even though it took a while to get there it was well worth it in the end.
